Mary Anita Rondenet (nee Gerber) quietly passed away in the Chicago area just before midnight March 16, 2017. She was born & raised on the South Side of Chicago. Her parents were Gertrude E. Gerber (nee Neville) & John Gerber; her brothers, Don and Jack. Mary was 93 when she died. Her loving husband of 69 years, Leon Rondenet II, passed on before her 3 years ago. They raised their family in Chicago and Glenview: their 4 children are Leon III, Mimi, John, and Bill Rondenet. Mary met Lee at Dewey Lake, Michigan through her brother, Jack, when she was 15 & Lee was 16. Her family had a cottage on the lake in the Irish Village & Lee's family had a cottage on the other side of the lake. They married in 1944 when Lee was home from leave during WWII serving in India. Mary was a Chicago school teacher for 40 years & attended the Chicago Teacher's College, as did her mother, also a Chicago school teacher. Her father was a pipe & steam fitter for the City of Chicago. As an ardent Cubs fan, Mary celebrated their recent World Series win. She was a devout Catholic who played the organ every Sunday at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Niles, IL. She was a volunteer at Presence Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines for many years. Mary was a wonderful mother who adored her children & her three granddaughters, Sky Rondenet, Venessa Freeman, and Jennifer Cropsey. She had six great grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Soleil, Macy, and Isabella Sailor (3 months old). Neen had dark Irish eyes, a sharp wit, and was a kind & very warm person. Our beautiful mother is at peace now & with her parents, husband, brothers, and her Irish & German ancestors.
