Michael Gerrit Haddon, age 83, passed away in his home in Skokie, Illinois on January 10, 2018. He was the cherished dad of Michelle (Neil), Lisa (Jeffrey) and David (Jennifer), dear grandpa to Noah, Megan, Nathan, Campbell, Spencer, Hailey and Kaitlin, loving brother of the late “Timothy” (Geraldine) Haddon, former husband and friend of Dale Slavin Haddon, brother-in-law to the late Joan (William) Jacobs, Bonnie (the late David, the late Sheldon Horwich) Lyons and Andrea (the late Richard) Kleinberg, and Uncle Mike to many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Pauline Josephine (Bronkhorst) Haddon, father Frederick Francis Haddon, brother Bruce Timothy Francis Haddon and his canine family members Gweny, Brandy, Blue, Bart, Sam, and Mister Ed.
Mike owned and operated Pratt Partition Corporation for over 30 years until his retirement. He spoke fondly of his time in the Army where he learned morse code and trained to be a telegraph operator. Mike loved his garden, especially his roses, and often felt the need to brag about his bumper crop of home-grown veggies year after year. His love of dogs was well-known to those that knew him. Not only did he love his own four-legged family members over the years, but he befriended every dog he met…facilitated by the dog biscuits he ALWAYS kept in his pocket … “just in case”. He was passionate about politics and enjoyed discussing current events. The political climate in recent years kept him feisty and energized much of the time. Throughout his life, he played golf and enjoyed the camaraderie of his family, life-long friends and dear neighbors. This last year, Mike taught us the meaning of perseverance in the face of adversity. We will miss him dearly and he will be forever in our hearts.
